LAND RIGHTS DEFENDERS INC

Land Rights Defenders is an Indigenous led 501(c)(3) public charity with its core mandate to protect the rights of landowners and ensure a safe and equitable environment for indigenous and native groups by advocating for fair and just land policies or practice and taking legal action where necessary.

Our Impact

At Land Rights Defenders Inc, our work empowers communities to claim and protect their land rights as a foundation for justice, sustainability, and self-determination. We have supported Indigenous communities in safeguarding ancestral territories, promoted women's leadership in land ownership, and provided legal aid to those facing displacement. Through policy advocacy and grassroots organizing, we've helped influence reforms and amplify marginalized voices.

Our environmental efforts support sustainable land use, protect biodiversity, and enhance food security for small-scale farmers. Together, these efforts strengthen climate resilience and uphold the dignity and rights of vulnerable communities worldwide.

Defending Land. Empowering Lives

The Land Rights Defenders Initiative champions social justice through a holistic approach—advocating for Indigenous land rights, women's empowerment, sustainable land use, climate justice, and food security, while providing legal support and driving policy change.

Generations of persecution met by a rising voice for justice: The story of Land Rights Defenders in Ghana.

For centuries, the Indigenous people of Benimasi-Boadi in Ghana have peacefully stewarded their ancestral lands. However, recent years have brought a surge in persecution and torture at the hands of the Kumasi Traditional Council. Facing a lack of government support and violations of both the Ghanaian Constitution and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), their very existence is under threat.
